The Cable way on Table Mountain first opened as long as 70 years ago on the 4th of October 1929. Tons of heavy cable was pulled from the harbor a few kilometers away to the lowest of the mountain.

The new Rotair cableways that you see now going up and down the mountain came from Switzerland by ship. Each cable car can carry 65 citizen and the floor revolves so that everybody can get a view. The cable car itself can take the weight of an elephant so weight is never an issue. The floor of the cable car is precisely a large water tank for the dry summer months were water is movable to the top of the mountain for visitors to use.
